I know I already wrote an entry about friendship, and the lack of warmth in the word, but over the course of the past month, I've come to realize something.

Beginning a friendship is a lot like building a boat that two people must sail in together. If you start off carelessly, using rotten wood, or quickly, leaving the boards gapped, the boat will surely spring leaks and start to sink. When that happens, you either jump ship or figure out the best way to plug the holes. Every time water seeps in.

I think it's unfortunate today that so many people would rather give up than try to mend things... but that does require very determined people with something worth saving. I'm grateful to be of the latter class. I hate to think what my life would be like if I'd given up any time the seas got rough. Some of the best parts of my life have required the most maintenance.
